Pokhara, 13 August | The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Meteorological Forecasting Division has announced that monsoon winds are currently active throughout Nepal. With the monsoon low-pressure trough located near the Terai region, the Division anticipates that the monsoon’s impact will intensify over the next two days. As a result, there is a high possibility of heavy rainfall in many parts of the country, and the public is advised to remain vigilant and make necessary preparations.
According to the Division, the weather is currently generally cloudy across the nation. Moderate rainfall is occurring in a few locations in Koshi, Madhesh, and Bagmati provinces, as well as in one or two places in the remaining provinces. Furthermore, heavy rainfall is already being experienced in a couple of places in Koshi Province.
The forecast for today afternoon indicates that the sky will be completely cloudy across the country, with a high probability of moderate rainfall in most areas. There is a possibility of heavy rainfall in a few locations within Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, with very heavy rainfall possible in one or two places.
Tonight, the hilly regions of Gandaki, Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, as well as other parts of the country, will be fully cloudy. Moderate rainfall is expected in many areas of the hilly regions of Gandaki and Karnali provinces, as well as in both the hilly and Terai regions of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces. Some parts of the hilly and Terai regions of the other provinces may also experience moderate rainfall.
Furthermore, a few locations in the hilly and Terai regions of Sudurpaschim Province are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall. Heavy rainfall is also possible in a few places in the Terai region of Lumbini Province and in one or two places in the hilly regions of Gandaki and Karnali provinces. The Division has warned that the rainfall could increase the risk of landslides and debris flow in hilly areas, raise water levels in rivers and streams, and disrupt transportation. The public is urged to take precautionary measures and prepare for potential impacts.
