Pokhara, 19 March| The National Independent Party, also known as Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), concluded its two-day intensive orientation program for its Members of Parliament today at Hotel Tulip in Lalitpur. The second day of the session commenced with a refreshing yoga and meditation class, symbolizing the party’s commitment to a disciplined and holistic approach to political life. This orientation brought together lawmakers elected through both first-past-the-post and proportional representation systems to foster a shared understanding of parliamentary practices, legislative processes, and policy-making. Since its start on Tuesday, the event has aimed to equip representatives with the necessary tools to maintain effective relationships with their constituents while navigating the complexities of the federal parliament.

The final day featured a rigorous schedule of training sessions led by seasoned administrative experts and party leaders. Former Secretary Dr. Toyanarayan Gyawali provided deep insights into government operations, specifically focusing on the intricacies of planning and budget formulation. Following him, another former Secretary, Pratap Kumar Pathak, conducted a session on the concepts and practical applications of good governance in the contemporary context. Furthermore, General Secretary Kabindra Burlakoti and Central Member RK Dhungana elaborated on the evolving relationship between the party and its legislators, emphasizing a new political culture, adherence to a strict code of conduct, and minimum professional commitments required from the people’s representatives.

The concluding segment of the orientation was marked by group presentations where the lawmakers identified and prioritized key legislative agendas. Facilitated by Pratibha Rawal and Manish Jha, these sessions allowed for a collaborative strategic direction for the party’s parliamentary activities. In the closing ceremony, Party President Rabi Lamichhane delivered a comprehensive keynote address, outlining the party’s strategic vision, policy priorities, and the importance of transparent communication. “Gen-Z” lawmakers Prashant Upreti and Khima BK offered a vote of thanks on behalf of the participants, expressing their readiness to implement the learned skills. The program officially wrapped up in the early afternoon, leaving the lawmakers with a strengthened mandate to advocate for transparency, accountability, and effective governance within the halls of parliament and beyond.
