Pokhara, 3 March | The escalating military conflict in the Middle East has cast a shadow of intense fear over the Nepali migrant population residing in the region. Early Tuesday morning, around 4:00 AM Nepali time, continuous explosions were reported in the skies near Abu Dhabi, UAE, signaling a dangerous turn in the ongoing regional instability. Amidst the series of attacks initiated by Iran, reports indicate that the Qatari capital, Doha, has also been facing persistent strikes. This volatile situation has left many Nepali youths in areas like Hamim City, which hosts a significant number of Nepali workers, feeling vulnerable and distressed. Speaking to media outlets, Pramod Chaulagain from Sindhupalchok shared that they are receiving constant emergency alerts on their mobile devices and are unsure of where to seek safety. He urgently appealed to the Nepal government to initiate rescue operations for citizens currently stranded in Dubai and neighboring regions.
According to international news agency Al Jazeera, five powerful explosions echoed across the Doha skyline at approximately 1:40 AM local time. The intensity of attacks on Iran and the reported death of the Iranian Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, have pushed regional tensions to a breaking point. While international media outlets have confirmed that there is no immediate information regarding human casualties or significant structural damage, the psychological impact on residents remains profound. In response to the worsening security climate, the United States State Department has already issued a stern advisory, urging its citizens to leave over a dozen Middle Eastern countries immediately. The current atmosphere of uncertainty has placed thousands of Nepali laborers in a precarious position, as they navigate the complexities of working in a conflict zone. As the situation remains fluid, many are looking toward their home government for guidance and potential evacuation measures to ensure their safety amidst the chaos.
