Pokhara, 7 March| Ganesh Parajuli, the newly elected Member of Parliament from the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), has stated that establishing good governance is a higher priority for his party than the immediate amendment of the constitution. Speaking shortly after his decisive victory in Kathmandu-7, Parajuli emphasized that while the party had previously discussed constitutional changes, the current national necessity dictates a firm focus on administrative transparency and accountability. He secured his seat in the House of Representatives by garnering a significant 27,805 votes, a result that underscores the growing public mandate for the RSP in the capital city. Parajuli noted that while the party had promised to form a task force for constitutional amendment even before approaching a two-thirds majority, they recognize that such revisions are not a simple matter and require a broad national consensus to be successful.

Addressing the ongoing debate regarding the country’s federal structure, the MP-elect clarified his party’s stance on provincial governments. He asserted that the Rastriya Swatantra Party has never called for the outright abolition of the provincial structure; instead, the party advocates for a rigorous reform of its current form to ensure it serves the people effectively. Parajuli’s comments come at a time when the RSP has emerged as a dominant force in the 2082 elections, leading the tally with 119 total seats and a massive proportional representation vote count exceeding 126,000. He reiterated that for the RSP, constitutional amendment remains a possibility through consensus, but it cannot take precedence over the immediate need for “Su-shasan” or good governance, which the voters have clearly demanded through their ballots.

The political atmosphere remains charged as the RSP continues to lead in 72 constituencies and has already secured 47 wins according to the latest live updates. Parajuli’s victory in Kathmandu-7 is seen as a cornerstone of this success, reflecting a shift in voter preference toward newer political entities that prioritize service delivery over complex political restructuring. By highlighting governance as the central pillar of their upcoming parliamentary journey, Parajuli has set a clear tone for how the RSP intends to utilize its significant presence in the federal parliament. He concluded by suggesting that the party remains committed to the spirit of the constitution but will focus its energy on making the existing system work for the citizens before attempting to rewrite its core provisions.
