Pokhara, 11 February | In anticipation of the House of Representatives election scheduled for 5 March (Falgun 21), security measures have been significantly intensified along the Indo-Nepal border in Rautahat district. To prevent potential unwanted activities and the illegal cross-border movement of arms, ammunition, and explosives, the district police have activated a robust surveillance mechanism. According to Rautahat Police Chief SP Sitaram Rijal, the heightened vigilance aims to ensure a peaceful environment, allowing citizens to exercise their voting rights without fear or external interference.

The increased police presence has not only deterred criminal gangs but also led to a significant rise in the seizure of smuggled goods and contraband. Inspector Krishnadev Prasad Shah, head of the Simraungadh Area Police Office, reported that illegal trade routes are being strictly monitored, resulting in a higher arrest rate for individuals involved in unauthorized cross-border activities. In the past three months alone, the Simraungadh police have successfully apprehended four fugitives, filed 18 cases, and seized a substantial amount of marijuana and narcotics. These proactive steps by the security forces have effectively bolstered public confidence in the regional law and order situation ahead of the polls.
