Pokhara, 13 February | With only twenty days remaining for the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5, the Election Commission of Nepal has initiated the transportation of ballot papers to remote regions. Starting Friday, the Commission began delivering ballot papers to twelve electoral constituencies across ten districts of the Karnali Province. According to Assistant Spokesperson Prakash Neupane, the delivery covers geographically challenging districts including Salyan, West Rukum, Dolpa, Mugu, Humla, Kalikot, Jumla, Jajarkot, Dailekh, and Surkhet, following the successful completion of the printing process for these areas.
As per the Commission’s latest update, printing has been completed for 124 electoral constituencies across 58 districts. So far, approximately 15.77 million ballot papers for the first-past-the-post (FPTP) system have been printed, out of a total target of 20.32 million. Apart from Karnali, the printing for all districts in Sudurpashchim Province and various districts in Koshi, Gandaki, Lumbini, and Bagmati provinces is also finished. This logistical progress ensures that necessary electoral materials reach their respective destinations well ahead of the polling day to facilitate a smooth voting process.
Currently, the Janak Education Materials Centre in Sanothimi, Bhaktapur, is operating at full capacity, packing around 1,000 boxes of ballot papers daily. The center is also managing the production of 1.3 to 1.5 million ballot papers every day. Meanwhile, the Commission has already finalized and prepared 20.83 million ballot papers for the proportional representation system, which were ready as of late January. Additionally, over one million mock ballot papers have already been dispatched to various districts to assist with voter education and preparation for the upcoming national polls.
