Pokhara, 19 February | With just 14 days left for the House of Representatives election scheduled after the Gen-Z movement, the Election Commission has released the ‘Temporary Voters List Related Procedure 2082’ to properly manage the collection of temporary voters lists and the permanent voting processes under the proportional representation system. This procedure was issued by exercising the powers provided under Section 44 of the Voters List Act, 2073, aiming to bring more order and transparency in voter registration activities during this crucial time.

As per the provisions outlined in the procedure, the Commission is set to publish a public notice that includes the detailed program for collecting the permanent voters list. If deemed necessary the notice can also be disseminated widely through national-level communication media, both in publication and broadcast formats, ensuring maximum reach to all eligible citizens. Importantly, the permanent voters list will incorporate names of various categories of personnel, including employees serving in the Nepal Government, provincial governments and local levels, as well as those in government-owned or controlled institutions. This inclusion extends to army personnel, police force members, prisoners and detainees currently in jails, officials and security personnel assigned to election duties, and chiefs along with office-bearers of constitutional bodies.

Furthermore, the Commission has clarified that in cases where any individual’s name has been omitted from the list or where errors appear in a voter’s name or other details, the affected person should submit an application supported by relevant evidence directly to the Chief Registration Officer. This mechanism allows for timely inclusion or correction, thereby strengthening the overall integrity of the electoral roll. Such proactive steps are expected to facilitate a smoother and more inclusive voting experience in the forthcoming election, reflecting the Commission’s commitment to fair democratic practices.
