Pokhara, 3 March | The Election Commission has officially enforced the 48-hour silent period starting today in preparation for the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for this Thursday. This critical phase in the election management process aims to ensure a calm and neutral environment for voters to make their final decisions without external influence. During this period, all stakeholders, including political parties, candidates, media personnel, and voters, are strictly mandated to adhere to a specific code of conduct. According to the Election Commission, any form of election campaigning, political discussions, interactions, mass meetings, seminars, or workshops are strictly prohibited. Furthermore, activities such as playing musical instruments, organizing public feasts, dancing, or creating any form of public disturbance and noise that could disrupt the peaceful atmosphere of the election are forbidden.

The Commission has placed a significant emphasis on monitoring digital platforms to prevent any indirect campaigning. It is strictly prohibited to post or share any information, messages, or promotional materials in favor of or against any political party or candidate through social media, online portals, or print media. Political parties and their sister organizations are required to remove all previous advertisements and promotional content from their social media handles before the silent period begins. Additionally, the use of sound systems, SMS services, or any other electronic communication tools to solicit votes is entirely banned. To maintain the integrity of the polling stations, all campaign materials located within a 300-meter radius of the voting centers must be removed 48 hours prior to the polling day. The Commission has warned that any attempt to obstruct voters or election staff, or any act intended to create fear and terror near the polling booths, will be met with strict legal action. These measures are designed to uphold the principles of a fair, free, and credible democratic election process across the nation.
