Pokhara, 9 September | Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane is scheduled to address Wednesday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, with the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi area of Rasuwa expected to be a major focus of his remarks. According to an RSP lawmaker, Lamichhane will speak about the search and rescue of people affected by the disaster, relief distribution, rehabilitation and other measures needed to support flood-affected communities. His address is also expected to draw attention to the condition of affected families and the government’s ongoing response to the disaster.
The meeting of the House of Representatives is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Alongside the flood-related discussion, the House is set to consider several legislative matters. Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Sobita Gautam is scheduled to present the ‘Nepal Law Commission (First Amendment) Bill, 2083’ before the House. The minister is also expected to table a proposal seeking consideration of the ‘Reconciliation-related (Second Amendment) Bill, 2083’.
According to the Federal Parliament Secretariat, a proposal concerning Nepal’s membership in the Council of Asian Legislative Institutions is also included in the possible agenda for the meeting. The proceedings are therefore expected to cover both an immediate humanitarian issue and a number of legal and parliamentary matters. Lamichhane’s decision to raise the Bhotekoshi flood and its impact in Parliament comes as rescue, relief and rehabilitation remain key concerns for communities affected by the disaster. The discussion is expected to place emphasis on the government’s response and the need for continued support to those affected.
