Pokhara, 28 November| The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development (MoALD) has commenced a nationwide agricultural survey to create a scientific basis for the development of the agricultural sector. Considered a crucial national-level program following the National Census and Agricultural Census, the survey is designed to cover detailed aspects including agricultural production, livestock farming, cost, income, marketing, irrigation, and the state of infrastructure. The Ministry has initiated data collection in coordination with all local levels, provincial agriculture ministries, and other concerned bodies.

Ram Krishna Regmi, Head of the Statistics Branch at the MoALD, informed that a single-door system has been adopted in coordination and collaboration with the local levels to prevent the possibility of double counting during data collection. Enumerators are conducting the agricultural survey by directly meeting with farmers. Regmi stated that through the sample method, six hundred thousand farmers will be initially selected. From this pool, 51,000 farmers will be finally selected to gather authentic data by identifying their experiences in the agricultural sector, the accessibility of government services and subsidies to the target groups, and the challenges they face.

The Ministry has already conducted training and necessary orientation programs at the local level to build capacity for the survey and data collection process. The MoALD anticipates that the collected data will be further studied and the final results will be made public by mid-January (Pus). This comprehensive survey is expected to be vital for formulating agricultural policies and planning based on scientific evidence.
