Pokhara, 26 December| The toy industry in China is witnessing an unprecedented transformation as artificial intelligence (AI) becomes a primary catalyst for market growth and innovation. According to recent data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), China’s AI-driven toy market reached a valuation of 24.6 billion yuan in 2024 and is forecasted to hit 29 billion yuan by the end of 2025. This surge is fueled by a burgeoning demand among young consumers for “emotional companionship” and support, moving beyond traditional play towards high-tech interaction. Government policies have further bolstered this momentum, listing collectible and AI-integrated toys as a priority consumption category, with a strategic goal to exceed the 100 billion yuan milestone by 2027.
Leading the charge are startups like Shanghai-based Robopoet, whose flagship AI plush toy, Fuzozo, utilizes advanced vision and language models to engage in human-like conversation and maintain eye contact with users. The company reported selling over 100,000 units this year, with ambitious targets to reach one million units in 2026. Similarly, AI-powered robotic pets from firms like Ropet are gaining traction as they simulate live animal behaviors without the logistical challenges of real pets, such as allergies or time constraints. Industry experts note that these devices serve as “emotional charging stations,” helping users cope with modern-day anxiety and loneliness through behavioral learning and personalized traits.
The global influence of Chinese AI toys is equally significant, as manufacturers leverage the country’s comprehensive supply chain and manufacturing prowess. In 2024, China’s toy exports totaled nearly $40 billion, with a notable acceptance of AI hardware in Western markets. Shenzhen-based TangibleFuture reported that 90 percent of its innovative “LOOI Robot” shipments are sold overseas, even receiving endorsements from high-profile tech figures like Elon Musk. As Chinese firms transition from original equipment manufacturing (OEM) to developing original intellectual properties (IP), the deep integration of AI is reshaping the value chain. This evolution not only satisfies domestic demand but also positions China as the primary provider of high-quality, emotionally intelligent playthings on the global stage.
