Pokhara, 9 September | The Armed Police Force Nepal has seized 157 kilograms and 207 grams of prohibited cannabis in Siraha district. A mobile patrol team deployed from Armed Police Force Nepal No. 7 Battalion Headquarters, Siraha, recovered the large quantity of cannabis from the border area at Ittatar in Aurahi Rural Municipality-4.
According to the Armed Police Force, the seizure was made at around 1:35 a.m. on Wednesday after the patrol team spotted individuals allegedly carrying the cannabis illegally from Nepal toward India. The individuals reportedly abandoned the cannabis and fled the area after noticing the security patrol. The patrol team subsequently took the abandoned cannabis into custody and began the process of handing it over to the concerned authorities for further investigation and legal action.
The seizure comes as security agencies have intensified surveillance and patrols along the Nepal-India border to curb illegal activities, including the trafficking of prohibited drugs. Superintendent of Police Sumanjung Thapa, chief of the Armed Police Force Nepal No. 7 Battalion Headquarters in Siraha, said patrols and monitoring activities have been made more effective to control illegal activities in the border areas. Authorities are expected to investigate the circumstances surrounding the attempted smuggling and identify the individuals involved. The latest seizure highlights the continued challenges faced by security agencies in preventing the illegal movement of narcotic substances across the border. The Armed Police Force has stated that increased surveillance and regular patrols will continue as part of efforts to strengthen border security and control unlawful activities.
