Pokhara, 9 September | Former Chief Justice Sushila Karki has strongly condemned the government’s brutal crackdown on the Gen-Z youth protests. Expressing her shock after visiting the injured at Civil Hospital, she stated that no sane person could resort to such cruelty. “They didn’t let them earn a living, and now they have taken away the children they had,” she said. Karki remarked that she had not imagined such a level of crime and cruelty would exist even in North Korea. According to her, this extent of violence is only possible with a specific instruction from someone with a cruel and violent mindset. She accused the rulers of being arrogant due to their power and wealth, which she believes led to the repression of innocent youth.
Having served in the highest office of the judiciary, Karki highlighted that there are many ways to control a crowd, such as using batons, tear gas, and water cannons. She said it was inhumane to shoot protesters in the head and chest. She emphasized that the youth were not terrorists but the children of our country, and that the government, by losing its composure, has no moral right to remain in power. She met with the youth and told them not to tolerate this oppression but to remain calm and not lose their courage. “This mismanagement and corruption must be kicked out,” she added. Karki has demanded a serious investigation into the crime and that the perpetrators be brought to justice.
