Pokhara, 9 September | In protest of the government’s crackdown on the Gen-Z demonstrations, Sujan Kadariya, the chairman of the All Nepal National Free Students’ Union (ANNFSU), has resigned from his position. He announced his resignation via social media, accusing the government of attempting to suppress the movement against the will of the people.
Kadariya described yesterday as the day when “student politics bowed its head.” He wrote, “The student organizations, which are the protectors and guides of students’ rights, could not even save the lives of students in school uniforms.” He stated that he felt his generation’s student politics had failed and that is why he resigned from his post. He also warned that the result of the government’s repressive actions would be “horrific.” Kadariya’s resignation highlights a significant rift between the CPN-UML-led government and its student wing.
