Pokhara, 6 June: Opposition parties have agreed to hold discussions with Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba concerning the recent political developments that have stirred national attention. The decision emerged following a meeting held at the office of CPN (Maoist Centre) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ in the Federal Parliament Building on Friday.
Chairman Dahal stated after the meeting that the opposition bloc deemed it appropriate to engage in dialogue with the Nepali Congress leader to deliberate on the current political climate. “It was discussed among the opposition that it is suitable to speak once with the President of the Nepali Congress regarding the current political developments,” he said.
One of the key issues under discussion is the government’s response to the controversy surrounding visit visas. Chairman Dahal indicated that if the government demonstrates a genuine commitment to conducting a credible investigation, the matter could be resolved in a constructive manner. “Today, the opposition convened first. The main issue is investigation. If the government shows commitment towards a trustworthy probe, then the matter can be concluded positively,” he added.
While the ruling side has reportedly shown willingness to move forward with the investigation, consensus has yet to be reached on the form such a probe would take. Discussions remain ongoing regarding whether to form a parliamentary investigation committee, establish a judicial inquiry under a former judge, or pursue another model of investigation. “The ruling side appears to agree on initiating the investigation,” Dahal said, “but there is no agreement yet on whether to proceed through a parliamentary committee, a judicial committee under a former judge, or another approach.”
The meeting reflects a cautious but potentially cooperative stance between the opposition and ruling factions, signaling a shared interest in resolving the visa controversy through institutional mechanisms.
