Pokhara, 4 August, Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been recorded in various parts of Nepal over the last 24 hours. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology, the highest amount of rainfall was measured in Arghakhanchi, which received over 114 millimeters. This quantity falls into the category of “very heavy rainfall” as per meteorological definitions.
Similarly, other stations recorded significant precipitation, with Dang measuring 102.4 mm, Rupandehi 101.8 mm, and Nawalparasi over 102 mm. A rainfall event is classified as “very heavy” when the accumulated precipitation within a 24-hour period ranges from 100 to 200 millimeters.
Additionally, heavy rainfall was also noted in Lamjung, Palpa, Gulmi, Sindhupalchok, Kapilvastu, Bardiya, and Banke, where approximately 90 millimeters of rain was recorded. The department categorizes rainfall between 50 and 100 millimeters as “heavy rainfall.”
This morning, excessive rainfall is still ongoing in Dhading, Bara, Rautahat, and Palpa. The department has forecasted that today’s weather will remain cloudy with a high probability of thunderstorms and lightning-induced rain in many parts of all provinces. Specifically, a few locations in Koshi, Madhesh, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Lumbini provinces are at risk of experiencing heavy rainfall.
Due to the continuous downpour in recent days, the water levels in rivers have risen. Residents living in areas adjacent to riverbanks have been urged to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions.
