Pokhara, 4 August । The government is preparing to launch subsidized shops, commonly known as ‘Supath Mulya Pasals,’ to coincide with the upcoming Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath festivals. The initiative, led by the Ministry of Industry, Commerce, and Supplies, is expected to commence from the last week of Bhadra (late September). As Dashain’s Ghatasthapana falls on October 6th this year, the shops will begin operations approximately 15 days prior to this date.

The Food Management and Trading Company Limited and Salt Trading Company will be responsible for offering discounts on various food items at these shops. The list of items typically includes essential goods such as salt, oil, rice, lentils, sugar, tea leaves, flour, and ghee, as well as live animals like goats and mountain goats. However, the exact discount rates and the locations for the subsidized shops are yet to be finalized. Officials from the Consumer Protection Division of the Ministry have stated that decisions on discount rates will be made after receiving proposals from the respective companies.

In an effort to provide greater convenience to consumers, the Ministry is also planning to facilitate online ordering and home delivery services for the products offered at these subsidized shops. This arrangement aims to ensure that people can easily access essential goods at reduced prices during the festive season. The government has a tradition of operating these shops annually to provide relief to consumers during major festivals.
