Pokhara, 9 September | In a major escalation of the ongoing protests, Gen-Z demonstrators have breached the gates and entered Singha Durbar, the central administrative hub of Nepal. The protesters, who have been demonstrating aggressively since early Tuesday morning, broke through the gate to gain entry, a move that has further intensified the already volatile situation. Following the death of 19 people in Monday’s protest, the youth’s anger has escalated, leading to widespread demonstrations in major cities across the country.
Protesters are continuously pelting stones at the residences of top leaders, party offices, and police stations. The security situation appears to be out of control. In response to the escalating threats, even government ministers are being relocated to secure locations via Nepal Army helicopters. The government’s repressive policy has exacerbated citizen dissatisfaction and anger, pushing the current situation beyond government control. The entry of protesters into a highly sensitive area like Singha Durbar raises serious questions about the nation’s overall security.
