Pokhara, 5 October | In view of the adverse weather conditions and the heightened risk of floods, landslides, and inundation due to continuous rainfall, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a directive to officials nationwide to maintain high alert. The Ministry has dispatched letters to all Chief District Officers (CDOs) and other security agency heads, instructing them to be available in their offices 24 hours a day and immediately engage in disaster management. This order is specifically aimed at districts facing the greatest vulnerability from the inclement weather.

The Ministry has mandated that CDOs facilitate the movement of stranded vehicles on the highways to their destinations, based on the assessment of road and weather conditions. Furthermore, they are instructed to coordinate with local governments and organizations to arrange for food and provisions for stranded passengers. Special emphasis has been placed on safely assisting parked ambulances to reach their destinations and ensuring that pregnant women stuck on the road are urgently transported to the nearest birthing center. In addition to managing highway-related issues, the Ministry has directed local administrations, in coordination with their respective local municipalities, to arrange for the relocation of individuals and families residing in high-risk areas to safe locations such as nearby schools or open spaces. The comprehensive directive underscores the government’s commitment to minimizing potential loss of life during the crisis.
