Pokhara, 25 December| Tribhuvan University (TU) successfully organized its 51st Convocation Ceremony at the Dasharath Stadium in Tripureshwor on Thursday, conferring degrees upon more than 89,000 students. The ceremony marked a significant milestone as the university graduated a total of 89,191 students across various academic levels, including Bachelor’s, Master’s, M.Phil., and Ph.D. programs. Among the eligible graduates, 16,380 students had formally applied to attend the grand event in person to receive their hard-earned credentials. The atmosphere at the stadium was filled with academic pride as thousands of graduates, clad in their traditional gowns and caps, gathered for this prestigious occasion.
According to the university records, the Management faculty saw the highest number of graduates this year with 43,610 students completing their studies. This was followed by 16,467 graduates from the Faculty of Education, 14,851 from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and 2,335 from the Faculty of Law. During the ceremony, the university also recognized academic excellence by awarding medals to 25 outstanding students who topped their respective faculties and levels. The awardees included 11 female students and 14 male students, showcasing a competitive spirit in academic achievement.
A major highlight of the 51st convocation was the presence of Nobel Prize-winning Japanese physicist Professor Takaaki Kajita as the Chief Guest. This is the first time in the history of Tribhuvan University that a Nobel laureate has graced the convocation ceremony. Professor Kajita, who is associated with the University of Tokyo and received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 2015, shared his insights and inspired the young graduates to pursue research and innovation. The event was presided over by Prime Minister and TU Chancellor Sushila Karki, with Education Minister Mahabir Pun attending as a special guest. The inclusion of a world-renowned scientist is expected to enhance the international reputation of Nepal’s oldest and largest university.
