Pokhara, 28 January | The newly appointed Chief of the District Police Office, Jhapa, Superintendent of Police (SP) Basundhara Khadka, has announced that security arrangements in the district have been placed on high alert for the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for March 5. Speaking at a press meet organized today at the District Police Office, SP Khadka, who recently assumed her role amidst the election preparations, outlined the strategic security measures being implemented. She emphasized that ensuring a peaceful, fair, and fear-free environment remains the top priority of the district police.

During the briefing, SP Khadka highlighted that security personnel are being deployed based on a rigorous assessment of security sensitivity and risk levels for candidates. “If any candidate perceives a threat to their safety and submits an application, we will provide immediate security protection as required,” she clarified. To bolster the election security infrastructure, an additional 100 security personnel have already been deployed across the district, covering major roads, residential areas, and highly sensitive zones.

SP Khadka urged the public not to view the increased police presence with suspicion, noting that it is part of a planned effort to maintain order. She also shared that the search for missing weapons is ongoing with increased intensity to ensure they are not misused during the election period. With 95 polling stations in Jhapa categorized as ‘highly sensitive,’ the police have implemented a micro-surveillance system and an integrated security plan to mitigate any potential disruptions during the democratic process.
