Pokhara, 28 January | The Office of the Cooperative Registrar in Gandaki Province has revoked the registration of nine additional inactive cooperatives that had failed to conduct any transactions for an extended period. Following a decision made on January 22 (Magh 9), the office cancelled the licenses of four cooperatives from Syangja, four from Parbat, and one from Nawalpur. With this latest move, the total number of cooperatives shut down by the provincial authorities has reached 35. This action was taken in accordance with Section 71, Sub-section (3) of the Gandaki Province Cooperative Act, 2018, which empowers the registrar to dissolve entities that remain non-operational for more than two consecutive years.
According to Cooperative Registrar Bheshraj Rijal, the office had previously issued a 35-day public notice on June 29, 2025, urging the organizations to update their records and resume contact. However, these cooperatives remained unresponsive even after the deadline, leading to the final cancellation of their registration. The recently dissolved entities include Syangja-based Tapu Bhanjyang Agriculture, Katauje Ginger Producer, Khadka Kalo Agriculture, and Sarobar Agriculture Cooperatives. In Parbat, Gahate Pakhara Milk Producer, Pragati Coffee, Purneshwar Coffee, and Parbat Adarsha Model Agriculture Cooperatives were shut down, alongside the Ex-Army Cooperative in Nawalpur. Registrar Rijal clarified that although the registrations are cancelled, the board of directors and officials of the respective cooperatives will remain personally liable for any outstanding financial obligations or debts. Currently, Syangja district accounts for the highest number of closures with 12 cooperatives, and authorities are reportedly preparing to dissolve more inactive institutions in Baglung.
