Pokhara, 28 January | Baburam Thapa, a seasoned politician with over four decades of public service experience, is contesting the upcoming House of Representatives election from Kaski Constituency No. 1 as the candidate of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP). Born on January 6, 1967 (Poush 23, 2023 BS) in Pokhara-28, Thapa completed his Bachelor’s degree in Management from Prithvi Narayan Campus, where his political journey took flight in 1978 during the height of the student movements. Originally a member of the ANNFSU (Fifth), he spent a significant portion of his career building the organizational base of the CPN (UML) before defecting to the RPP in 2022. He previously tested the waters in the provincial elections, and is now seeking a seat in the federal parliament to address national-level crises.

Thapa’s candidacy is driven by the growing public disillusionment with the current political system and the rampant corruption plaguing state institutions. He draws inspiration from the recent “Gen-Z” youth uprising observed in September 2025 (Bhadra 2082 BS), which he believes has signaled a paradigm shift in Nepali politics. “The youth have spoken against the status quo, and I am here to channel that energy into a corruption-free, prosperous nation,” Thapa stated during his door-to-door campaign. His manifesto places a heavy emphasis on resolving the long-standing landless squatter (Sukumbasi) crisis in Kaski-1. He proposes identifying specific pocket areas for permanent settlement and ensuring that landless citizens receive legal ownership of their homes to foster a stable environment for regional development.

Beyond land issues, Thapa is vocal about creating domestic employment opportunities to prevent the mass exodus of Nepali youth seeking work abroad. He envisions a self-reliant economy where local entrepreneurship, tourism, and modern agriculture serve as pillars for job creation. As he engages with the electorate in Kaski, he pledges to be a voice for transparency and accountability in the House of Representatives. Thapa argues that sustainable development is impossible without prioritizing the fundamental needs of the people first. With his deep-rooted local ties and administrative academic background, Baburam Thapa aims to convince voters that a change in leadership is the only way to end the cycle of political stagnation and institutional corruption.
