Pokhara, 27 March| The first Cabinet meeting of Nepal’s newly formed government has officially begun at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singha Durbar. The meeting is being held under the leadership of newly appointed Prime Minister Balen Shah, following the completion of oath-taking and assumption of office by all newly appointed ministers earlier in the day. Ministers have been arriving at the Prime Minister’s Office after completing their respective portfolio responsibilities at Singha Durbar.

President Ramchandra Paudel had appointed Shah as Prime Minister earlier today, and all cabinet members were sworn in during a formal ceremony. Following the ceremony, the ministers proceeded to their respective ministries to assume their official duties before joining the first Cabinet meeting. The sequence of events marks the formal operational start of the new government.

The Cabinet meeting is expected to focus on key policy directions and immediate administrative priorities of the government. As this is the first meeting of the newly formed administration, discussions are likely to revolve around setting governance priorities, coordination among ministries, and outlining initial steps for policy implementation. Observers view this meeting as a foundational moment that will help define the government’s working style and decision-making approach.

Most ministers, however, have not announced any formal first decisions upon assuming office. Instead, they appear to be in the process of understanding their respective ministries, reviewing ongoing programs, and identifying priority areas for action. This indicates that the government is still in its initial phase of organizing and aligning its administrative framework.

The first Cabinet meeting is traditionally considered significant as it sets the tone for governance and provides early indications of the administration’s focus areas. In this context, the current meeting is expected to address both structural and procedural matters while also preparing the groundwork for upcoming decisions.

With the formation of the new cabinet and the commencement of its first meeting, attention is now turning toward how effectively the government can translate its initial coordination into concrete policies and outcomes in the coming days.
