Pokhara, 17 February | Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), the central bank of Nepal, has officially released the foreign currency exchange rates for today, providing essential financial benchmarks for businesses, travelers, and the general public. According to the latest notification issued by the central bank, the purchasing rate for one US Dollar has been fixed at 144 Rupees and 75 Paisa, while the selling rate stands at 145 Rupees and 35 Paisa. These rates serve as the primary reference for international transactions and remittance inflows, which are crucial for Nepal’s economy. In addition to the US Dollar, the central bank has updated rates for major European currencies. The European Euro is being traded with a buying rate of 171 Rupees 74 Paisa and a selling rate of 172 Rupees 45 Paisa. Similarly, the UK Pound Sterling has reached a buying price of 197 Rupees 55 Paisa and a selling price of 198 Rupees 37 Paisa. The Swiss Franc also saw its rates established at 188 Rupees 02 Paisa for purchase and 188 Rupees 80 Paisa for sale.
The update further details exchange values for currencies across the Asia-Pacific and Middle Eastern regions. The Australian Dollar is set at a purchase rate of 102 Rupees 50 Paisa and a sale rate of 102 Rupees 92 Paisa, while the Canadian Dollar stands at 106 Rupees 24 Paisa for buying and 106 Rupees 68 Paisa for selling. For those dealing with Singaporean currency, the rate is fixed at 114 Rupees 70 Paisa and 115 Rupees 17 Paisa respectively. In the Middle Eastern sector, the Saudi Arabian Riyal is priced at 38 Rupees 60 Paisa (purchase) and 38 Rupees 76 Paisa (sale), whereas the Qatari Riyal is maintained at 39 Rupees 60 Paisa for buying and 39 Rupees 77 Paisa for selling. The UAE Dirham is quoted at 39 Rupees 41 Paisa for purchase and 39 Rupees 57 Paisa for sale. High-value currencies like the Kuwaiti Dinar remain the most expensive, with a buying rate of 474 Rupees 36 Paisa and a selling rate of 476 Rupees 32 Paisa.
Regarding other significant currencies, 10 Japanese Yen are being bought at 9 Rupees 43 Paisa and sold at 9 Rupees 47 Paisa. The Chinese Yuan is established at 20 Rupees 95 Paisa for purchase and 21 Rupees 04 Paisa for sale. The Malaysian Ringgit, a key currency for many Nepali migrant workers, is set at a buying rate of 37 Rupees 12 Paisa and a selling rate of 37 Rupees 27 Paisa. Notably, the exchange rate for 100 Indian Rupees remains pegged, with a buying rate of 160 Rupees and a selling rate of 160 Rupees 15 Paisa. Nepal Rastra Bank has clarified that these rates are subject to revision at any time based on market necessity and global fluctuations. Furthermore, while the central bank provides these reference rates, commercial banks may apply slightly different rates for their retail customers.
