Pokhara, 19 February | The equation for the Super 8 stage in the ongoing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka, has now been fully completed following Pakistan’s decisive victory over Namibia on Wednesday. This win ensured Pakistan’s qualification, thereby finalising the lineup for the second phase of the tournament and setting the stage for intense knockout battles ahead.

From Group A, the host nation India along with Pakistan have successfully advanced to the Super 8, while the United States, Netherlands, and Namibia have been eliminated at the group stage itself. In Group B, Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe secured the top two positions to progress further, leaving Australia, Ireland, and Oman unable to make it through to the next round despite some competitive showings. Group C saw England and West Indies claim their berths in the Super 8, whereas Italy, Scotland, and Nepal exited the competition after failing to progress from the initial phase. Similarly in Group D, South Africa and New Zealand confirmed their spots, with Afghanistan, UAE, and Canada bowing out early.

A notable aspect of this tournament so far remains that no Associate nation has managed to break into the Super 8 stage, highlighting the continued dominance of Full Member countries in this format. The Super 8 has been divided into two groups; Group 1 comprises India, South Africa, West Indies, and Zimbabwe, while Group 2 includes Pakistan, England, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka. A total of twelve matches are scheduled in the Super 8 phase, promising high-stakes encounters that will determine the semi-finalists.

This structure reflects the tournament’s evolving format designed to intensify competition after the group stage. With heavyweights like India, Pakistan, England, and Australia no longer all in contention beyond their respective paths, the remaining teams now face crucial tests of skill, strategy, and resilience. Fans can expect thrilling contests as these eight sides vie for supremacy in what is shaping up to be one of the most competitive T20 World Cups in recent memory, especially given the co-hosting dynamics and the absence of any Associate surprise qualifiers.
